evening/weekend part time jobs around LR? need to pad the income a little

Hey everybody ๐Ÿ‘‹ so this is kind of a random one but figured this is the best place to ask. I've got a full time day job (M-F, done by 5 most days) and I'm not looking to quit or anything, but with groceries and gas the way they are right now ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I really wouldnt mind picking up a few hours a week in the evenings or on weekends to pad things out. Just somethin like 10-15 hrs a week, nothing crazy.

I live up in the Heights so anywhere within like 15-20 mins of there is perfect, I-630 / Markham / Kavanaugh / River Market area all work. I've already tried the DoorDash thing for a couple weeks and honestly after gas and wear on the car it was NOT worth it ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ’ธ so I'm thinking an actual hourly gig. Things I've wondered about: event staff at Simmons Bank Arena or War Memorial for Razorback games ๐Ÿ— (I'd do that for free tbh lol), the evening shifts at the grocery stores, or maybe the UPS/Amazon night stuff but I dont know if those hours are even doable on top of a day job.

If anyone here has actually done a second job or side gig in town, who's hiring and is it decent? Bonus points if it's a place that doesnt schedule you at random and then change it the day before ๐Ÿ™ƒ I would say a game store or something would be my dream (I'm a big gamer ๐ŸŽฎ) but I know those dont pay anything lol.

Thanks in advance, any leads or even warnings about places to avoid are welcome ๐Ÿ™

Not a job board answer exactly but since you're in the Heights and the market is so crazy right now, look at real estate side stuff ๐Ÿก Inventory is tight and agents are slammed, so a lot of them would love someone to cover open houses on Sundays, put out signs, or run showings while they're juggling three offers. Pay is all over the place, some do a flat fee per open house and some just want a warm body with a license, so ask up front. Even a few hours on a Sunday afternoon adds up and you're not locked into a schedule.

Leasing offices are another one. Apartment complexes around the River Market, Midtown and out toward Chenal usually want weekend help on Saturdays, and it's pretty steady since they set the hours ahead of time.

If you end up liking it, the Arkansas pre-license course is doable in the evenings. Last I checked it was around 60 hours, but double check that with the Real Estate Commission before you pay for anything.

Also agree on the Simmons Bank Arena events, those are fun and the schedule is posted way ahead ๐Ÿ‘ Just know it's seasonal and can be hit or miss.

Leasing office on Saturdays is a good idea. Those hours are set ahead and it's usually the same couple of people every week, not a random schedule. Just ask if they want you on during the weekend rush, because some of those places want you all day.

One thing on the arena (I still call it Alltel Arena, can't help it). The hours are good but they're not guaranteed. A bad ice week like we just had and events get cancelled or moved, and then you're not working. Fine for padding, just don't count on it to cover a bill.

Come fall, check with the school district about Friday night football at War Memorial and Quigley. They need gate and concession help, and I don't know what they pay but it costs nothing to ask.

Good tip on the football gigs ๐Ÿˆ One thing though, Quigley's over in NLR so that's the North Little Rock district, I think. Different office than LRSD, so call both. A lot of the concession stands are run by booster clubs too, so it can end up being more volunteer than paid. Still worth asking.

Derek, also keep an eye on the new places opening around SoMa and the River Market... new restaurants and bars usually hire weekend help before they even open, and the schedule tends to be more set than the chains.

Late to this, but Dickey-Stephens will be hiring for Travelers home games before the season starts in April. Ushers, gate, concessions, that kind of thing. It's NLR like Quigley, so same deal, call them directly. The home schedule is out way ahead, so you'd know your nights in advance. UA Little Rock does similar stuff at the Jack Stephens Center if you want something sooner than baseball.

If you know your way around a car, the parts stores on Markham and Kavanaugh are always short on weekend counter help too.

I'd skip the UPS/Amazon night thing with a day job. A guy I know tried it and said the hours wore him out in about a month.

Ha, I still say Alltel too, it's a club at this point. And yeah that ice week wrecked everything, half the events got bumped around and the extra hours just vanished.

On the football gate stuff, Randy's right, most of the concession stands are booster clubs and they will happily let you work a 5 hour shift for a hot dog and a "thanks so much!!" I've done enough youth league snack shacks to know. If you want actual money, look at umpiring or reffing for the youth leagues. Spring ball is about to start and they pay per game, and you pick which ones you take. Mostly Saturday mornings tho, so don't expect to sleep in.
