Best red velvet cake in Little Rock? Birthday Sunday

Partner's birthday is this Sunday and red velvet is her thing. I want something actually special, not a Kroger sheet cake with a name piped on it. šŸŽ‚

Who's making the good stuff around here? Cream cheese frosting is a must, and I like it moist, not dry and crumbly like some places do it. I'm in the Quapaw Quarter but I'll drive, Hillcrest, out west, North Little Rock, wherever.

Also, is it too late to order? It's already Friday night so I'm guessing I'm cutting it close. If anybody knows a place that does last minute orders or has whole cakes ready Saturday, I'd love to hear it. Slices are fine too if that's all I can get...

Thanks neighbors

Honestly it's late for a custom order, but I wouldn't give up. Community Bakery on Main has a few cakes in the case most days, and I'd call them first thing Saturday and ask if they have a red velvet ready or can turn one around. Worst case they say no and you've lost five minutes. I can't promise theirs is the moistest in town, but I've never had a dry cake from them.

Another option is one of the home bakers who post in the local Facebook groups. A lot of them will take a Saturday pickup if you message them tonight, and the cream cheese frosting is usually the real thing instead of that whipped stuff.

If you strike out on a whole cake, get slices from somewhere decent and put a candle in it. She'll care that you tried.

Thanks Kevin, Community Bakery is a good call. I'm only a few minutes from Main so I can be there when they open. I'll phone first thing in the morning and see what's in the case.

I'll poke around the Facebook groups tonight too, though I'm not on there much anymore... if anyone here knows a home baker who does a good cream cheese frosting, send me a name šŸ™

Slices with a candle is the fallback. She'd laugh at me but she'd eat it.

Community Bakery is a good call. I'd skip the phone and just walk in when they open, since the case gets picked over fast on Saturdays. If they're out of whole cakes, ask what they can box up. Good luck šŸŽ‚

Walking in is probably smarter, yeah. I'll be there when they unlock the door. Looked through a couple of the Facebook groups tonight and everybody's either booked or posting at 11pm, so no luck there šŸ˜…

Will report back Saturday on how it goes. Two Randys agreeing, that's gotta be a good sign...

Two Randys agreeing with each other at midnight, nothing suspicious there lol. But yeah, walk in. Saturday mornings the case gets raided by the youth soccer and baseball parents grabbing boxes on the way to the fields, so be there when the door unlocks or you'll be staring at crumbs.

And if they're out of red velvet, don't panic and buy the Kroger thing. Get whatever cake they've got with real frosting and say it was a surprise upgrade. She'll live.
