University and Colonel Glenn tonight... what's your go-around?

Sat at University and Colonel Glenn forever this evening. Police and fire both there, and half the people stuck in it were cutting through the Walgreens lot... which only made it worse.

I ended up bailing over to Asher... not sure that was smart. What do you all do when University is blocked? Anybody know what happened?

The Walgreens lot cutters are always the worst part of any blockage. Everybody decides their time matters more than the next guy's, and then six cars are nose to nose by the drive-thru and nobody can move. I wasn't in it tonight, but I heard sirens for a good while and have no idea what it was.

Asher wasn't a crazy call. When University is shut I usually either hop on 630 if I'm going far enough for it to be worth it, or just stay on Asher and take the slow way. What I won't do is try to muscle through at Colonel Glenn once there are lights flashing. You just sit there and think about your choices.

If anyone finds out what happened, post it here. Our local news will say "traffic incident" and call it a night.

Agree on the Walgreens lot. Somebody always cuts in off Colonel Glenn, then somebody else tries to turn left out of the drive-thru side, and now nobody's going anywhere. If there's an accident and the light's already flashing, I figure I'm better off just sitting.

My usual move is to turn around before I get anywhere near Colonel Glenn. I go back up toward Asher and take Fair Park over, or get on 630 if I'm headed east anyway. It's longer on paper but I keep moving. I'd rather do that than idle, especially in the old Chevelle. She runs hot in stop-and-go and I don't love sitting in it with the temp gauge creeping.

No idea what happened tonight either. I'd check the LRPD and LRFD pages in the morning, though like Heather said, it'll probably just say "traffic incident."

Turning around before Colonel Glenn is the right call, Kevin. Once you're past the Walgreens entrance you're stuck with everybody else. I do Asher over to Fair Park too, or if I'm coming from the Quapaw Quarter side I just take 630 and come at it from the other direction. Adds ten minutes but no blood pressure 😄

Still haven't seen a word anywhere on what actually happened. Anybody hear anything?

Keep that Chevelle off University at 5 o'clock and she'll thank you.

Ten extra minutes and no blood pressure is honestly the best pitch for 630 I've heard yet. I'm on University a lot on Saturday mornings, going from sale to sale with the back seat full of other people's lamps, and I learned the hard way to bail early. The one time I got stuck near Colonel Glenn I had my foster pup in the car, and she was NOT a fan of the sirens. Now if I see brake lights stacking up past Asher, I just turn around and take the long way, no debate.

Still nothing on my end about what happened, either. I checked the LRPD page this morning and it's quiet. If somebody's cousin's neighbor knows, please come tell us 🙂

Asher was a fine call, Natalie. I've gone that way for years when University locks up. Never did get the Walgreens lot shortcut to work out for anybody.

Haven't heard what happened. Somebody at the market Saturday will know, they always do.
