So the results are in and Mayor Scott got re-elected over B.J. Wyrick, roughly 60 to 40 from what I saw. Virgil Miller, Kathy Webb and Andrea Lewis all kept their seats too. Dwight Townsend Sr. took the open Ward 2 seat, and Benny Johnson was ahead for Ward 7 on the unofficial numbers. I haven't seen anything saying it's final yet, so if somebody knows when it gets certified please tell me. New terms start Jan 1.
I'll be honest, I pay way more attention to the mayor's race than the ward races, and I think alot of us do. I could tell you what Scott and Wyrick said about everything from the debates but I couldn't tell you one thing about Townsend or Johnson besides the names on the signs. That's on me, not them. I'd really like to hear from anybody who lives in Ward 2 or Ward 7 and actually went to a forum or met them. What are they like, what did they say they'd do, and did anybody ask about the stuff we actually deal with, like road repair, drainage, and keeping the parks and trails up?
I'm out on the trails by the river most weekends and the condition of them goes up and down depending on the year, so that's the thing I'll be watching. And yes I know the mayor and the board don't fix every pothole themselves, I'm just saying I'd like to know who to email.
Also totally unrelated but my yard sale brain can't help it. Every election the corners are covered in signs and then they sit there for weeks after, getting sunbleached and leaning over. Does anyone know if there's a rule about how long they have to come down? I drive past a couple near my usual Saturday route and they've been there since forever. Thanks all, curious what everybody thinks of how it turned out.
